Park Yi-Taek

Abstract
This article analyses the demographic information included in Eonyang-eup family register(Hogeok: ûÂîß) during 1911-1975 and compiles age composition of population, expectancy life and total fertility rate from family register. These indices show that the demographic information included in family register is very useful in understanding demographic transition. Because this is the first study to compile expectancy life and total fertility rate from family register and to examine possibility of utilizing family register as demographic data, this article has high scientific importance. Our main findings can be summarized as follows: (1) From the mid-1940s, dependency ratio and total fertility rate stated to decrease; (2) From the late-1940s, expectancy life stated to increase; (3) The difference in expectancy life between men and women was in a widening trend during 20 century; (4) The total fertility rate during 1955-63 was smaller than that during 1941-45. This article shed light on the timing and pattern of demographic transition in Eonyang province.
